Faruk visits Atghar Kuriana boat market

PIROJPUR, Oct 12, 2025 (BSS)- Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk E Azam, Bir Protik, today visited the traditional floating boat market of Atghar Kuriana in Swarupkathi upazila .

Speaking on the occasion, he said, the importance of domestic boats in reducing the suffering of people during disasters is immense in terms of reaching relief quickly and in rescue work. 

“Therefore, we are giving special importance to the use of locally made boats in relief and rescue operations,” he said.

“Although previous governments imported foreign boats at a huge cost, we will use boats made by local craftsmen - this will not only save the country's money, but also keep the local industry alive,” the Liberation War Affairs Adviser said.

At that time, he exchanged views with the boat craftsmen of Atghar Bazar, famous for its centennial boat market, and assured them of necessary assistance to encourage them.

The main purpose of his visit was to verify the possibility of using the boats here for flood-affected areas of the country during disasters.
