DHAKA, Oct 14, 2025 (BSS) - The 56th World Standards Day is being observed today across the globe, including Bangladesh, to raise awareness and increase understanding of the importance of standardization in facilitating international trade, ensuring product quality, and promoting safety and sustainability.

Taking place annually on October 14, the day acknowledges the collaborative efforts of thousands of experts worldwide who develop voluntary technical agreements published as international standards.

This year's observance highlights the crucial role of standards in addressing global challenges, enhancing innovation, and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Various organizations, including national and international standardization bodies, are marking the day through seminars, discussions, and awareness campaigns focused on the role of standards in improving quality of life and boosting economic growth.

In Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) is observing the day with a series of programmes aimed at promoting public awareness about the significance of adopting and implementing standards in all sectors of national development.

In addition, important places in the city have been decorated with banners, festoons, and placards.

Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar are airing special programmes on the occasion.

As part of the observance, the BSTI will organize a discussion today at Krishibid Institution auditorium in Dhaka.

Industries Secretary Md Obaidur Rahman will attend the event as the chief guest.

Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, Chairman and CEO of PRAN-RFL Group, Md Alamgir, Secretary General of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), and A H M Shafiquzzaman, President of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB), will join the programme as special guests.

Professor Dr Abdul Hasib Chowdhury, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), will present the keynote paper.

BSTI Director General (Grade-1) S M Ferdous Alam will preside over the discussion and deliver the welcome address.

In addition to the discussion event, awareness-raising SMS messages are being sent to mobile phone users across the country with the support of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), highlighting the importance of standards in daily life.
