DHAKA, 14 Oct, 2025 (BSS) - The Supreme Court administration has issued a directive to establish separate judicial magistrate courts in all districts across the country to ensure the speedy disposal of cases pending in magistrate courts.

The related notification, signed by Supreme Court Registrar General Mohammad Habibur Rahman Siddiquee, was issued on October 13 and was published today on the website of the apex court.

“Due to the heavy workload of cognizance courts, the concerned magistrates are unable to devote sufficient time to their judicial duties during daily working hours. Therefore, it is essential to establish separate Judicial Magistrate Courts in all districts,” the notification said.

In this context, to ensure the speedy disposal of cases in magistrate courts, the concerned authorities have instructed all Chief Judicial Magistrates/Chief Metropolitan Magistrates to take  all  necessary measures so that some existing courts function solely as Judicial Magistrate Courts while others operate exclusively as cognizance courts, it added.
