DHAKA, Oct 14, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has joined Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and FAO Director-General Dr Qu Dongyu to inaugurate the new office of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty at the FAO headquarters in Rome.

The event was held on Monday, said Chief Adviser's Press Wing today.

Brazil and Bangladesh are co-founders of the Global Alliance, a vision first proposed by President Lula nearly a decade ago.

The three leaders formally opened the facility, shaking hands inside the newly inaugurated office space of the Alliance.

Describing the initiative as a critical milestone in the global fight against hunger, they emphasized the urgency of collective action-especially at a time when the world faces two major famines in Gaza and Sudan, and over 300 million people remain food insecure globally.

"Let's work together to fight hunger and combat poverty," said Professor Yunus, addressing a small gathering at the event.

President Lula and Dr Qu also delivered brief remarks, highlighting the significance of the new partnership and its potential to bring coordinated global action against food insecurity.

The ceremony was also attended by several Brazilian ministers, along with Bangladesh's Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder and Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter.
