Bangladesh, Australia discuss trilateral cooperation under IORA framework

DHAKA, Oct 15, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh and Australia have discussed enhancing cooperation and exploring potential trilateral initiatives involving the Maldives under the framework of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) to promote sustainable development and regional prosperity.

During a courtesy call, Bangladesh High Commissioner to the Maldives Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam met with Australian High Commissioner to the Maldives David Jessup and discussed ways to strengthen partnership among the three Indian Ocean nations for the benefit of the Maldivian people and Bangladeshi expatriates residing in the island nation.

The two envoys exchanged views on shared priorities including climate resilience, human resource development, maritime collaboration, and sustainable growth, underscoring the scope for joint capacity-building efforts to advance regional well-being.

Both sides reaffirmed the importance of IORA as a vital platform for fostering cooperation, stability, and inclusive prosperity across the Indian Ocean region. 

They agreed that closer collaboration among member states, based on shared values and mutual respect, can significantly contribute to the progress of the Maldives, the wider region, and the global community.
