Mirpur fire: Probe committee formed

DHAKA, Oct 15, 2025 (BSS) – A seven-member investigation committee has been formed to probe the fire incident that engulfed a garment factory and its adjoining chemical warehouse in Rupnagar, Mirpur on Tuesday.

Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment Loshkar Tajul Islam will lead the committee, said a PID handout issued today.

The committee will determine the cause of the fire, identify those responsible, assess the extent of the damage, and make necessary recommendations. It will submit its report within the next seven working days, the handout said.

In addition, the committee will submit a detailed report to the ministry, including the extent of the damage, a list of the injured and deceased, findings on any negligence in the inspection process, a risk assessment of the factory, and recommendations for risk mitigation and accident prevention.

It may be mentioned that the families of each deceased will receive Taka two lakh as financial assistance, while each injured person will receive Taka 50,000 from the Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation, the handout added.
