Nine HSC candidates appeared from 5 colleges, all failed

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 16, 2025 (BSS)- None of the nine students from five colleges under the Chattogram Education Board failed to come out successful in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations. 

This information was confirmed while Chattogram Education Board Controller of Examinations Parvez Sajjad Chowdhury disclosed the statistics at a press briefing held at the board auditorium this afternoon.

"Two students from Meron Sun College in the Chandgaon area of the city participated in the examinations, but neither of them passed. Only one candidate from Merit Bangladesh College took the examination and failed. Three candidates from Saraipara City Corporation College in Pahartali area participated, but none of them passed. A candidate from Chakaria College in 
Chakaria Upazila of Cox's Bazar district also took the examination and failed. Additionally, two candidates from Chattogram Zilla College in the Panchlaish area of the city participated but did not pass," according to a statement delivered from the Chattogram Education Board.

Appropriate measures will be taken against the five colleges with a zero pass rate, the Controller of Examinations added. 

This year, a total of 102,970 students from 307 colleges sat for the examinations, of whom 53,560 students --26,218 male and 27,342 female-- passed the HSC and equivalent examinations which were held from June 26 to August 19, 2025. 

The Chattogram Education Board achieved a pass rate of 52.57 percent while 6,097 students secured the GPA-5 in this year's HSC and equivalent examinations.

Both the overall pass rate and the number of Grade Point Average (GPA)-5 holders have declined compared to the previous year. 

Last year, the pass rate stood at 70.32 percent while 10,269 students secured GPA-5. This year's figures represent a drop of 17.75 percentage points in the pass rate and a decline of around 4,000 in the number of GPA-5 achievers. 

Female students have outperformed male candidates in both pass rate and GPA-5 under the board this year. The pass rate among male students was 48.95 per cent while female students achieved a higher rate of 55.49 per cent, as stated in the official statement. 

The pass rates for different Groups are as follows: Science Group- 78.75pc, Business Education Group- 55.30pc, and Humanities Group-37.08pc.
