DHAKA, Oct 17, 2025 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of Police has arrested four people and recovered around 190 bhori of gold ornaments and 93.5 grams of silver looted on October 8 from a jewellery shop located in Fortune Shopping Mall in the capital's Malibagh area.
The arrested are Shahin Matabbar alias Shahin alias Shahid, 46, Anita Roy, 31, Md Nurul Islam, 33, and Uttam Chandra Sur, 49, said a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) release here today.
Police also recovered Taka 1.77 lakh in cash and a motorcycle from their possession, it added.
According to police, the looters entered the market through the back by climbing a rope hanging from the window of one of the toilets.
"They entered the toilet and wore burqas. After breaking open the door of the toilet, they entered the market and looted the jewellery store. The gang fled the scene at around 4:30 am," the DMP release said.
DB arrested Shahin Matabbar from Chattogram on October 16 and recovered around 121.07 bhori of looted gold ornaments from his cattle shed.
Another team of the DB arrested Anita Roy, wife of fugitive accused Shaishab Roy, from Uzirpur, Barishal, on the same day and recovered 52.81 bhori of gold ornaments from her possession.
Police also arrested Md Nurul Islam from Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, and recovered one motorcycle, Taka 1.77 lakh in cash-proceeds from selling the looted gold-and around two bhori of gold ornaments from his possession.
Meanwhile, Uttam Chandra Sur, who allegedly financed the heist, was arrested from his Shakharibazar residence this morning, and 13.67 bhori of gold ornaments were recovered from his possession.
