World Mental Health Day Observed at Dhaka University

DHAKA, Oct 18, 2025 (BSS)- Dhaka University today observed the World Mental Health Day-2025 through organizing various programmes.  

Educational and Counseling Psychology and Student Counselling and Guidance directorate of the university jointly organized the programmes.   

This year’s theme for World Mental Health Day is “Access to mental health services in crisis and emergencies.”

Prof. Sayema Haque Bidisha, DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Sayema Haque Bidisha inaugurated the day’s events as the chief guest at the event at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) premises. 

Director of the Student Counselling and Guidance Office Professor Dr. Mehzabeen Haque presided over the event. 

Chairman of the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology Dr. Md. Azharul Islam addressed the vote of thanks.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sayema Haque Bidisha emphasized the importance of prioritizing mental health alongside physical health. 

“We often give importance to physical illness while neglecting mental health or feel uncomfortable discussing it, which is not the right approach,” she said.

Stressing the need for greater public awareness about mental health, she noted that “In today’s competitive society, people of all ages, specifically the youths, are facing intense mental stress. Counselling services are vital for managing stress,” she noted.

Prof. Sayema later visited several stalls set up on the TSC premises in observance of the day.

The daylong programmme included free counselling services, psychological assessments, mental health awareness games, book exhibitions and sales related to psychology and mental health, as well as workshops and other awareness raising activities.
