Shadow UN conference begins at HSTU on Oct 23

DINJAPUR, Oct 20, 2025 (BSS) - A three-day International Shadow United Nations (UN) Conference will begin at Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) in Dinajpur on October 23.

Secretary General of the conference Fahim Al Mahmud said, “The conference will open a new horizon for the leadership practice of the young generation. This event will create an important opportunity to awaken unity, courage and humanitarian spirit among the youth.” 

He said the main theme of this year's conference is inspired by the historic Santal Rebellion of 1855, which was the first large-scale indigenous mass movement in the subcontinent. “The courage and fight for justice of the Santals teaches us that even oppressed people can establish their rights through unity, patience and consciousness,” he added.

Nine different committees have been formed to discuss important areas of the UN and global diplomacy. Around 300 representatives from more than 40 educational institutions of the country will participate in the conference. 

Besides, 70 secretariat members are working dedicatedly under the auspices of the university administration and with the overall support of the teachers. 

University sources said that this conference will be helpful in developing the qualities of diplomacy, compromise and leadership of the youth. 

It is mentionable worth that the HSTU has been organising the International Shadow United Nations Conference every year with the participation of students from various educational institutions of the country. 

University’s Registrar Professor Dr Md Abu Hasan said that preparations for the conference are underway. The university authorities have taken all kinds of preparations to make this conference a success, he added.
