JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Oct 20, 2025 (BSS) - World Statistics Day 2025 was celebrated on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus today with the theme "Driving change with quality statistics and data for everyone.," emphasizing the importance of statistics in policymaking, planning, and sustainable development.

Marking the day, a colourful rally was brought out from the Department of Statistics and Data Science around 10:00 am, which paraded various streets of the university. Teachers and students, led by Department Chair Professor Dr Rumana Rois, took part in the rally.

Addressing the event, Professor Rois said that statistics is not merely a collection of numbers but a powerful tool to guide national policies and improve lives.

"Incorrect use of statistical data, such as applying monthly data where daily data is required, often leads to misleading outcomes in research and policymaking," she noted.

She said the main objective of the celebration was to raise awareness about the proper use of quality statistics and promote its role in evidence-based decision-making.
