Statistics is main tool for building knowledge-based society: BRUR VC

RANGPUR, Oct 20, 2025 (BSS) - Vice-chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya 
University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali has said that 
statistics is one of the main tools for building a knowledge-based society in 
the current world.
 
"The role of statistics in formulating and implementing development plans 
through the use of accurate and reliable data in research is immense," he 
said. 
 
The Vice-chancellor said this while inaugurating a colorful rally organized 
by the University's Statistics Department to celebrate World Statistics Day- 
2025 on campus on Monday as the chief guest. 
 
The rally, participated by the teachers and students of the Statistics 
Department, circled various roads of the university campus and ended at the 
media square.
 
At the time, Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali said that in the era of the fourth 
industrial revolution, the use of data science, artificial intelligence and 
big data has opened new horizons in research and decision-making. 

"In keeping with the world, our students also need to master this emerging 
technology for innovating new ideas in statistics," he said. 

At the end of the rally, the Vice-chancellor cut a cake on the occasion of 
the World Statistics Day. 

Head of the Department of Statistics Dr Md Siddiqur Rahman presided over the 
event.

Director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the university 
Professor Dr Md Tajul Islam, Registrar Dr Md Harun-or Rashid, Director of the 
Office of the Student Affairs Professor Dr Md Ilias Pramanik, Proctor Dr Md 
Ferdous Rahman and Joint Director of the 
Rangpur Divisional Statistics Office Md Shafiqul Islam, along with teachers 
and students of the Statistics Department, attended the event.
