RAJSHAHI, Oct 21, 2025 (BSS)- Rajshahi University (RU) celebrated the World

the significance of the day today.

To mark the day, the RU administration brought out a rally which ended in
front of the third science building after parading some of the roads followed
by a discussion at the conference hall of the Department of Statistics.

This year's theme is "Driving change with quality statistics and data for
everyone" underscoring the importance of reliable, high-quality data in
decision-making, effective policy development and sustainable progress.

Vice-chancellor (VC) Professor Saleh Hassan Naquib addressed the discussion

VC Prof Saleh Hassan Naquib said flawless data is a crucial means for
pursuing proper development planning to move the country forward successfully
while facing all existing challenges, including the global pandemic and
natural disasters.

All authorities and others concerned should come forward and work together to
collect and furnish authentic statistics and information on all nation-
building issues.

He said no nation can develop without statistics, as future planning and
development depend on it. Accurate statistics form the foundation of an
improved life, while inaccurate statistics can cause devastation, he added.

He, however, emphasized that flawless statistics can play a pioneering role
in proper planning and that there is no alternative to qualitative
statistical information for formulating effective plans.

He expected that the persons engaged in census and other ongoing survey
activities will play a responsible role in this regard, adding that
acceptance of data and findings largely depends on the competency of
statisticians.
