Mother, daughter killed in road accident on way to Tanguar Haor

SUNAMGANJ, Oct 24, 2025 (BSS) - A mother and her daughter were killed and at least 10 others were injured early Friday in a road accident while travelling to Tanguar Haor in Sunamganj. 

The fatal crash occurred around 5:30 am in Inatnagar area near Pagla Bazar under Shantiganj upazila of the district

The victims were identified as Manjura Akhter ,37, and her daughter Ayesha Siddika ,10 - wife and daughter of Abdullah Al Mamun, an officer of the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC). 

Mamun, originally from Doalia village in Chandpur district, is currently residing in Dhaka.

Police and witnesses said 11 BCIC officials, along with their families, left Dhaka on a Senjuti Travels bus for a trip to Tanguar Haor. 

As the bus reached the Inatnagar area, the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to skid off the road and fall into a roadside ditch. The bus overturned, crushing Manjura Akhter and Ayesha Siddika, who died instantly.

At least 10 passengers were also injured in the accident. 

Locals rushed to the scene, rescuing the injured and taking them to the Shantiganj Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

Upon receiving the report, teams from Shantiganj Fire Service and Joykals Highway Thana police arrived at the scene and launched a rescue operation.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Suman Kumar Chowdhury of Joykals Highway Thana said, "We found the bus overturned in a ditch. The bodies of the deceased were recovered with the assistance of the fire service."
