Eminent singer Sachin’s birth, death anniversaries to be observed Oct 30, 31

CUMILLA, Oct 23, 2025 (BSS) - Various programmes have been taken in the district on October 30 and 31 to commemorate the birth and death anniversaries of eminent singer of the subcontinent Sachin Dev Burman. 

A preparatory meeting was held today at the initiative of the Cumilla district administration marking the anniversaries.  

The meeting decided to hold discussions and cultural programmes marking the birth and death anniversaries of Sachin on October 30 and 31.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Saiful Islam chaired the preparatory meeting while District Cultural Officer BM Kamrul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police Shamim Quddus Bhuiyan, former president of Cumilla Press Club Abul Hasnat Babul, officer-in-charge of Kabi Nazrul Institute Center Md. Al Amin, AB Party CUmilla Metropolitan Convener Golam Muha. Samdani, Joint Convener of JASAS Comilla Metropolitan Istiak Ahmed Pallab, among others, addressed it.

The organizing committee members said  the venue will be decorated to showcase the life, work, rare photographs and musical legacy of Sachin Dev Burman. Renowned musicians, researchers, writers and cultural activists of the country will participate in the two-day programme. 

The organizers said that this programme is not only an initiative to remember the king of music, but also to familiarize the new generation with his musical philosophy, thoughts and contributions.

The programmme will include a discussion on the life and work of Sachin Dev Burman, performances of popular songs sung in his tunes, an open music concert with the participation of young artists, and an exhibition of local music, handicrafts and books. 

It is mentionable that Sachin Dev Burman, a son of Cumilla, was a unique musical genius. Born into a royal family, this legendary artist has left an immortal mark on both the Bengali and Hindi music worlds. 

His melodies, voice and creativity are still immortal in the hearts of music lovers of both Bengals.
