UNITED NATIONS, United States, Nov 4, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - The world cannot avoid surpassing the 1.5 degree climate threshold but must strive to keep it short, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres warned Tuesday.

"Our mission is simple -- but not easy: Make any overshoot as small and as short as possible," Guterres said as the United Nations released its latest report on the drive to limit global warming to no more than 1.5 degrees centigrade above pre-industrial levels.
