LALMONIRHAT, Nov 18, 2025 (BSS) – As winter deepens, the demand for blankets, mattresses, and rugs has surged across the district.

A BSS correspondent visiting various markets in the town observed shoppers selecting different types of cotton and fabrics to make warm cloth, while shopkeepers busily took orders.

Meanwhile, work continues from morning to night in 14 to 15 blanket and mattress factories in the city, contributing to a rise in winter clothing prices.

Locals said that ready-made blankets are currently being sold for Taka 900 to 2,000, mattresses for Taka 800 to 1,700, jajim for Taka 2,500 to 4,400, and pillows for Taka 100 to 200.

Artisans Md. Amin, 65, and Sattar Ali, 68, of Messrs. Jamal Cloth Stall in the Mogalhat Railgate area said that as the winter season intensifies, their workload has also increased.

They added that despite working from morning until late at night, it has become difficult to meet customers’ demands this season.

Carpet and mattress artisans of Barabari Bazar also reported that, like every year, the winter rush has brought increased busyness.

Shariful Islam, 22, and Masud, 35, said they work from morning until late night making blankets and mattresses.

“We earn Taka 200 to 250 for making a blanket, depending on its size, and Taka 150 to 300 for a mattress,” Shariful said.

Customer Akbar said, “I went to the store and ordered two blankets, which cost Taka 4,400. The nights are very cold, and wearing a scarf is not enough, so I am buying blankets at a reasonable cost.”
