IU celebrates 47th University Day

ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY, Kushtia, Nov 22, 2025 (BSS) - Islamic University (IU) celebrated its 47th University Day on Saturday with vibrant and day-long programmes on the campus. 

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah inaugurated the day-long programme by hoisting the national flag while Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr M Yeaqub Ali hoisted the university's flag.

Besides, a cake-cutting ceremony and balloons and pigeons were released there.

Later, a joyous rally, led by the Vice-Chancellor, paraded through different roads of the campus. All departments and residential halls joined the rally with their respective banners.

The rally concluded at the university’s foundation stone, where floral wreaths were placed.
 
A special prayer was offered seeking eternal peace for the soul of the university’s founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.

After the rally, a discussion meeting was also held at the Birshreshtha Hamidur Rahman Auditorium, presided over by the convener of the Day Celebration Committee Prof Dr Alinoor Rahman.
 
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Naqib Mohammad Nasrullah addressed the programme as the chief guest. 

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr M Yeaqub Ali, Treasurer Prof Dr Jahangir Alam, and leaders of various teachers’ and employees’ forums also spoke on the occasion. 

In addition, SM Sweet, coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at IU, along with leaders of different student organisations, delivered remarks as representatives of the students.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Naqib Mohammad Nasrullah said, “On this day in 1979, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman laid the foundation stone of Islamic University at Shantidanga-Dulalpur.  We observe this day every year as our founding anniversary, and today’s celebration is part of that tradition.”

He added, “Islamic University will continue its forward march, upholding its reputation in all respects. This university will remain an ideal institution and continue progressing as one of the best universities in Bangladesh.”

After Zuhr prayers, a special munajat was held at the Central Mosque seeking the university’s development and prosperity.
