JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Dec 27, 2025 (BSS) - Jahangirnagar University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan today commended the Jahangirnagar University Journalists' Association (JUJA) for upholding objective and responsible journalism despite criticism and pressure.
"Journalism is a profession where telling the truth does not always bring praise. Journalists must be mentally prepared to do difficult and often unpleasant work but that work must be guided by truth," he said.
The Vice-Chancellor made the remarks while addressing the unveiling ceremony of a souvenir titled 'Arunodoy' and the screening of a documentary organised by JUJA at university's senate hall on the anniversary of the mass uprising.
Praising JUJA's role over the years, Dr Kamrul Ahsan said the organisation has consistently safeguarded the interests of the university. "There were attacks and movements at different times, but the journalists' organisation of this university has never been shaken," he added.
Highlighting the importance of professionalism, he said journalists must maintain a clear distinction between emotion and facts. "In reporting wars, famines or crises, emotion cannot replace objectivity," he noted.
Referring to past movements against administrative irregularities at the university, the VC said JUJA members faced harassment but remained committed to the truth. "They endured repression, yet never compromised their professional integrity," he added.
He also welcomed JUJA's initiative to document the July events, stressing that preserving memories is crucial at a time when misinformation spreads rapidly on social media.
Calling on journalists to remain resolute, Dr Kamrul Ahsan said the struggle to protect truth must continue, even if one has to stand alone.
