CU entry tests begin, 56 candidates vie for each seat

CHITTAGONG UNIVERSITY, Jan 2, 2026 (BSS) - Admission tests in the Chittagong University (CU) for the 2025-26 academic session began today, drawing thousands of eager candidates and guardians. 

With 233,327 applications against 4,165 seats, the competition is fierce as an average of 56 aspirants vying for each coveted place.

The tests started with the "A" unit examination at 11:30 am this morning. 

The university authorities said the admission test of each unit would begin at 11:30 am and end at 12:30 pm, while candidates were required to enter the examination centres by 10:30 am.

Like previous years, the admission tests are being held simultaneously at the CU campus as well as at Dhaka University and Rajshahi University campuses. However, the tests of all sub-units are being conducted only at the CU campus.

Tight security measures have been taken centring the admission tests. The administration said a total of 637 security personnel, including 220 police members, have been deployed to maintain law and order inside and outside the campus. 

Besides, two emergency medical camps, six information centres, six resting places for guardians, 37 temporary toilets and adequate drinking water facilities in front of each faculty building have been arranged.

According to the admission schedule, the "A" unit test was held today, while the "D" unit test will be held on January 3, the "C" unit on January 9 and the "B" unit on January 10. 

Among the sub-units, the "D-1" test will be held on January 5, the "B-1" test on January 7 and the "B-2" test on January 8.

The "A" unit, comprising the faculties of Science, Biological Science, Engineering and Marine Sciences and Fisheries, has 1,093 general seats, against which 87,694 students have applied. 

The "B" unit under the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, excluding Drama, Fine Arts, Arabic, Islamic Studies, Pali and Music departments, has 690 general seats with 69,287 applicants.

Under the "C" unit of the Faculty of Business Administration, there are 510 general seats in six departments, for which 16,925 students have applied. 

The "D" unit, comprising departments under the faculties of Social Sciences, Law, Education and Biological Science, has a total of 849 seats with 51,506 applicants.

Among the sub-units, the "D-1" sub-unit under the Faculty of Education for the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science has 40 seats with 1,421 applicants. 

The "B-1" sub-unit, comprising Drama, Music and Fine Arts departments, has 135 seats with 1,645 applicants, while the "B-2" sub-unit, comprising Arabic, Islamic Studies and Pali departments, has received 4,849 applications against 280 seats.

For the "A" unit, 55,550 candidates will sit for the test at Dhaka University centre, 19,346 at CU centre and 12,798 at Rajshahi University centre. 

Besides, for the "B" unit, 33,406 candidates will appear at Dhaka University centre, 21,574 at CU centre and 14,307 at Rajshahi University centre.

For the "C" unit, 10,534 candidates will take the test at CU centre, 5,315 at Dhaka University centre and 1,076 at Rajshahi University centre. 

Moreover for the "D" unit, 23,371 candidates will sit at Dhaka University centre, 20,543 at CU centre and 7,592 at Rajshahi University centre.

Besides, for the "B-1" sub-unit, 632 candidates will appear at Dhaka University centre, 917 at CU centre and 96 at Rajshahi University centre. For the "B-2" sub-unit, 3,557 candidates will sit at CU centre, 1,040 at Dhaka University centre and 252 at Rajshahi University centre. For the "D-1" sub-unit, 911 candidates will take the test at CU centre, 404 at Dhaka University centre and 106 at Rajshahi University centre.

According to the revised schedule, shuttle trains will leave Bottoli of Chattogram city for the university at 7:00 am, 7:15 am, 9:20 am and 9:50 am from Sholoshahar, at 2:50 pm, 3:50 pm and 8:30 pm during the seven days of the admission tests. 

From the university campus, shuttle trains will depart for Bottoli at 8:20 am and 8:25 am up to Sholoshahar, and at 1:30 pm, 2:30 pm, 4:00 pm, 5:30 pm and 9:30 pm.
