IU's ICT Dept celebrates silver jubilee, 1st reunion

ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY, Kushtia, Jan 10, 2026 (BSS)- From batch one to batch 27, 
the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at Islamic 
University (IU) in Kushtia today concluded its two-day Silver Jubilee and 
Reunion- 2025 programme. 

The programme started on Friday with a souvenir unveiling ceremony, cultural 
performances by present students and gala dinner.
 
The second day started with releasing balloons and pigeons as the symbol of 
peace. 

Later, a colourful procession was brought out, led by IU Vice-Chancellor (VC) 
Professor Dr Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah, from the Ibn Sina Science building at 
around 12:30pm. 

Pro VC Prof Dr M Yeaqub Ali, Treasurer Prof Dr Jahangir Alam, over 600 
alumni, teachers and present students participated the two-day celebration.

After parading throughout the main roads of the campus, the rally concluded 
at the Birshreshtha Hamidur Rahman Central auditorium where a formal session 
was held.

Alumni and current students shared their experiences and expressed their 
feelings about the reunion there. 

Prof Nasrullah addressed the event as the chief guest while Pro-VC Prof Dr M 
Yeaqub Ali, Treasurer Prof Dr Mohammad Jahangir Alam addressed the event as 
special guests. 

ICT Cell Director Prof Dr Shahjahan Ali, IIER Director Prof Dr Mostafizur 
Rahman, Proctor Prof Dr Shahinuzzaman, Student Advisor Prof Dr Obayedul Islam 
and teachers from various departments were present, among others.

The programme was chaired by the chairman of the department Prof Dr Tarek 
Hasan al Mahmud while Prof Dr Md Alamgir Hossain convened the event.

The VC said, in his speech, that the day was dedicated to the participants. 
He urged everyone to reflect on the journey of Islamic University, what it 
was in the past and what it has become today. 

He emphasized that working for positive change means taking responsibility 
for shaping the university's future.

"ICT and communication technologies are now widely used in policy-making 
around the world, and those working in the ICT sector are actively 
contributing to this process, he noted. 

Prof Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah described ICT as a discipline that empowers 
individuals and increases participation in decision-making across many 
fields. 

The ICT Department should not remain only an academic unit, but should serve 
as a platform for change, he concluded.

Later, a cultural programme and a gala dinner were held to mark the occasion. 
Former vocalist of Warfaze Mizan performed at the event.
