DHAKA, Jan 13, 2026 (BSS) - The country's first government freelancer ID management software has been officially inaugurated as an effort to build a transparent, secure and harassment-free verification system for freelancers.

Chief Adviser's Special Assistant on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, inaugurated the software at the meeting room of the ICT Division in Agargaon here today.

In his speech, Taiyeb said the entire process has been kept completely free after seriously considering past experiences, especially allegations of harassment and financial fraud.

As part of this initiative, he said, all types of financial transactions, including application fees, renewal fees and processing fees, have been completely canceled.

A total of 29 engineers of DOICT will serve as a resource pool in ID verification, he said, adding that four support experts will be there to support freelancers as a shared resource pool for technical support.

Noting that an API-based verification system will be launched very soon, the special assistant commented that a consensus has been reached with the community on two levels of API verification.

He said the VAPT of the site has already been successfully completed, while sign-up and application for a freelancer ID can be done from today.

Taiyeb also said freelancer community leaders and the Bangladesh Call Centre Association will work together to improve the user experience of a significant number of freelancers.

A formal letter will be sent from the ICT Division to Bangladesh Bank, so that banks and financial institutions accept this digital freelancer ID instead of manual ID in the future, he said.

In the meantime, the previous contracts have been canceled in the wake of allegations of fraud and harassment, and freelancer community leaders have positively accepted the annual margin of US$ 50 on the accepted payment method, the special assistant said.

He also commented that the engineers of the ICT Division who developed this software will maintain it.

With this new freelancer ID card, registered freelancers will be able to easily avail various facilities, including banking services, loan and credit card facilities, financial incentives, and government and private training.

At the same time, this platform will work as a national freelancer database, where the number, skills, and type of work of freelancers will be stored, which will be helpful in future policymaking.

ICT Division Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury, Additional Secretary of the ICT Division Md Mamunur Rashid Bhuiyan and Director General of the Department of ICT Md Abu Sayed also spoke, among others.
