
DHAKA, Jan 18, 2026 (BSS)- Printing and distribution of free new textbooks at all levels in the 2026 academic year is almost completed.
Chairman of National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) Mahbubul Hoque Patwary told BSS today.
He said overall progress of textbook printing for secondary level (Class VI-IX) and Ebtedayee level of Madrasas is 98.76 percent.
The average rate of textbook distribution at the two levels is more that 95.47 percent, he said, adding 100 percent textbooks has been supplied at Ebtedayee level.
Talking to BSS, he said the printing and delivery of the Ebtedayee level has already been completed by January 17 and at the secondary level about 98.62 percent of the textbook printing has been completed.
The NCTB chairman said the printing and binding of the remaining books will be completed in the next few days.
The activities to deliver textbooks to the relevant education offices at field level have been greatly strengthened so that students can get their textbooks very quickly, he added.
Scenario at Ebtedayee level:
According to the NCTB report, a total of 3,11,09,347 textbooks were printed and bound at the Ebtedayee level. Of those, 54,34,755 books were printed for Class-one of Ebtedayee level, while 52,31,172 books for Class-II, 67,49,568 for Class-III, 68,98,776 for Class-IV and 68,23,076 for Class-V.
Progress at Secondary level-
According to the report, the work of printing and binding textbooks at the secondary level is also almost completed. The overall printing progress at this level through 102 presses is 98.62 percent. Of those, 99.48 percent of printing has been completed in Class-VI, while 97.3 percent in Class-VII, 97.15 percent in Class-VIII, and 99.58 percent in Class IX.
Official data reveals that 17,96,06,855 textbooks out of 18,32,04,927 have already been printed at the secondary level. Binding work has been completed 98.04 percent of the textbooks. Pre-delivery inspection (PDI) of these books is 95.05 percent.
Although the books at Ebtedayee level are fully ready for distribution, PDI and delivery activities are ongoing for secondary level books. A total of 17,34,88,311 textbooks have been supplied to the secondary level.
NCTB Secretary Professor Shahtab Uddin told BSS that if the printing-related issues including power supply and transportation system remain stable, the work of all the remaining textbooks will be completed by January 22.
He said printing and binding the textbooks is almost at the final stage. Currently, we are giving top priority to the process of delivering textbooks at the upazila level, he said.
The secretary said if the re-tendering process of some books was not required, all the books would have been delivered by December last. He sought the cooperation from all concerned to deliver the textbooks to the students at the earliest.
