RANGPUR, Jan 18, 2026 (BSS) - Adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Environment, Forests and Climate Change and Water Resources Syeda Rizwana Hasan has said the imterim government is now fully ready for the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections.
"The Election Commission has not been able to participate in the election process properly in the past regarding the national elections. At present, when the people, political parties, government, administration, law enforcement agencies and everyone are ready for the elections, we are also ready for the elections."
She said this in response to questions from journalists before joining a view exchange meeting organized by the Rangpur District Administration at the Shilpakala Academy auditorium in the city on Sunday evening to promote the referendum and inspire voters.
Rizwana said that a mass uprising took place by accumulating long-standing anger.
The main goal of that mass uprising was change.
Although it started with the qouta reform movement, the students and the public faced state oppression and brutality.
Since then, there has been a demand for a change.
In the context of that demand, a mass uprising took place and the government changed.
Later, the interim government was brought to power with the traditional systematic administration only and an election was held.
"We have been working on three major agendas from the beginning. One is reform, trial and election," she said.
Later, the reform commission was formed, keeping it outside the control of the government.
Through that reform commission and after scrutinizing the opinions of the political parties, the July Charter was prepared.
The referendum question was determined after reviewing the July Charter for a long time.
A referendum has been organized on the major issues of the July Charter.
"If the referendum is successful, then the official journey of the change that was done in the interest and aim of July, the hopes and aspirations that were created in the minds of the people after July, will begin," she said.
Then she joined a discussion meeting at the Shilpakala Auditorium to promote the referendum and inspire voters.
The discussion meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam, Rangpur Range DIG Aminul Islam, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Majid Ali, Director of the Divisional Information Office Dr Md Mofakkharul Iqbal.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan presided over the meeting.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan has come to Nilphamari and Rangpur districts on a two-day visit.
Tomorrow, the adviser will visit the erosion-prone areas of the Teesta River at 9 am.
Later, at 2:30 pm, she will participate in a rally for the referendum activities from the Rangpur Deputy Commissioner's office in the city.
