DMP files 2,627 cases against traffic rule violations

DHAKA, Jan 21, 2026 (BSS) - The Traffic Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan 
Police (DMP) has filed 2,627 cases against motor vehicles and drivers for 
violating traffic rules in a single day across the capital.

A media release of the DMP today said that they filed those cases and 
realized the money on Tuesday (January 20) through their regular drives 
against the traffic rule breakers.

A total of 334 motor vehicles were dumped and 166 were wrecked due to 
poor driving practices, said Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (Media and 
Public Relations Division) of the DMP.

Of the cases, traffic Ramna division filed 110, Lalbagh division registered 
126, Motijheel traffic division filed 233, Wari division registered 684, 
Tejgaon division filed 226s, Mirpur division filed 928, Gulshan division 
filed 153 and Uttara division registered 167 against motor vehicles as well 
as three wheelers and motorcycles, it added.

"The drives will continue to ensure discipline on the city streets," the 
release said, adding that the DMP has been working to bring the traffic 
system under smooth in the capital for giving city dwellers easy movement.
