DHAKA, Jan 24, 2026 (BSS)- BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman today said BNP would prioritize law and order and controlling corruption if his party come to power in next election.

"First, we have to ensure law and order. People are saying they want to be safe on the streets, this must be ensured. And corruption, we will control with a strong hand. If we can properly address these two things by any means, other problems will be largely resolved," he observed.

The BNP Chairman shared this plan during a conversation with the winners of the 'National Reel-making Competition titled 'My Vision of Bangladesh.' The conversation was organized at Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed Park in Gulshan. His daughter Zaima Rahman was also present.

The winners placed their various queries before Tarique Rahman and he gave open answers to them.

Tarique Rahman said, "There are various types of corruption at various levels; we have to try. If we can address the two things a bit better, other problems will be largely solved. This is my plan."

Questions also came from the winners regarding who would get the family card, and whether widows would receive it. In response, Tarique Rahman said, "Those who are single mothers, those who are in various types of difficulties, and those whose husbands have left them will get the card."

"Under this social safety initiative of the Bangladesh government, there are about 138 projects. But all schemes are not working rightly, resulted in wasting resources. One person is getting three supports, another is getting none. We want to reorganize this through the family card. We have kept it for universalisation," he added.

In response to a question about addressing the issue of cyber bulling, child abuse and violence against women, Tarique Rahman said steps would be taken for educating children on social values from tender age.

"Cyber bullying, acid incidents...if we teach children from a young age what is right and what is wrong.. if we can teach children in this way, I think when a child reaches a certain stage, this idea will enter their minds about what is just and what is unjust, what is right and what is wrong. When they grow up, they will gradually start applying social values."

When someone asked what can be done as children, addicted to mobile phones, watch negative things, the BNP Chairman said, “There are lot of work to do here.”

“During my father's (Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman) time, there was a program called 'Notun Kuri' in Bangladesh Television. Actually, the current interim government has restarted it. We have a plan regarding sports. We want to connect sports with 'Notun Kuri'. If children are involved in sports, mental development will occur. Simultaneously, sports, a third language learning, recitation, art, music, arts, and culture will be included in the school-level syllabus. As a result, school children will be busy in these areas. Their inclination towards the internet will decrease."

Barrister Zaima Rahman shared her thoughts on online harassment, saying, both girls and boys face the harassment. In this case, a digital education system can be implemented.

"If community desks can be set up, things can be sorted out locally. Besides, if children are taught from a young age what is right and what is not, these problems will decrease. Everything has to be done together," she added.

Regarding a question about resolving Dhaka's traffic congestion, Tarique Rahman said, "Do you have an idea how many people live in Dhaka city now? I heard over three crore people. There are several reasons for this traffic jam. Firstly, our road designing; secondly, our public transport management, public transport system; and thirdly, quite a few facilities.
He said, "There are also small towns in the districts, district towns, or headquarters. There we will develop small satellite towns. We will not take new land. Where the town already exists, in that place itself we will develop the town with basic supports like good schools, education, medical facilities, grocery markets, and efforts will be made to ensure security."

The 10 winners are- Toufiqur Rahman, Rafayetul Ahmed Rabbit, Shethkh Rifat Mahmud, Fatima Ayat, Md. Israfeel, Sazedur Rahman, Sheikh Md. Ikratul Islam, Zarin Nazneen, Md. Rifat Hasan, and Ramesa Anjum Roshmi. They spoke with the BNP Chairman and shared their queries and thoughts.
