BMEd, MMEd courses to be introduced to enhance standard of Madrasa teachers

DHAKA, Jan 25, 2026 (BSS) - A decision has been taken to introduce one-year professional BMEd (Bachelor of Madrasa Education) and MMEd (Master of Madrasa Education) courses to enhance professional skills of the teachers of Fazil and Kamil madrasas affiliated with the Islamic Arabic University (IAU).

The information was disclosed today through a press release signed by the Director of the university's Public Relations, Information and Advisory Office.

According to the release, the decision was taken at the 40th meeting of the syndicate held on January 20, presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof. Dr. Md. Shamsul Alam.

Addressing the meeting, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shamsul Alam said, "There is no alternative to training for professional development. With the aim of enhancing the professional skills and qualifications of madrasa teachers and students and modernizing the education system, we have decided to introduce these two professional courses. As a result, madrasa teachers and students will be able to demonstrate their competence in national and international workplaces."

The Syndicate meeting was attended by Pro-Vice-Chancellors Professor Dr. Mohammad Shahidul Islam and Professor Dr. Mohammad Abu Zafar Khan, Treasurer A S M Mamunur Rahman Khalili, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Education Khadija Khatun, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Abul Bashar Muhammad Amir Uddin, Chairman of the Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board Prof. Mian Md. Nurul Haque and Principal of the Bangladesh Madrasa Teachers Training Institute Prof. Mahmudul Haque, along with other Syndicate members.

It may be mentioned here that the Islamic Arabic University currently offering honours courses in seven subjects. In addition, it conducts three-year Fazil (Pass) courses in various subjects, two-year Kamil (Master's) courses in four subjects, and one-year Kamil (Master's) courses in seven subjects.

University authorities believe that the introduction of these two new professional courses will open a new horizon of specialized higher training in the madrasa education system.
