JASHORE, Jan 25, 2026 (BSS) - Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) celebrated its 20th founding anniversary and University Day today with a series of colourful and festive programmes on its campus.
The day's events began at 10:00am when JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Abdul Majid hoisted the national flag. Later, Regent Board Member Professor Dr H M Zakir Hossain hoisted the university flag and formally inaugurated the University Day programmes.
Following the inauguration, teachers, students and employees of the university brought out a joyous procession across the campus. The day-long celebrations included cake cutting, a discussion meeting, pitha festival, poster presentations, a "July Corner," and performances of local folk songs.
Among the various activities, the pitha festival drew special attention, where teachers, students and invited guests enjoyed a variety of traditional pithas and local delicacies.
Speaking as the chief guest at the discussion meeting, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Abdul Majid said that despite its relatively small size and short time, JUST has achieved remarkable success nationally and internationally.
"Jashore University of Science and Technology stands tall in global rankings, surpassing many of the country's older universities in education and research," he said.
Highlighting the university's infrastructure, the Vice-Chancellor said that JUST now boasts state-of-the-art laboratories, modern residential facilities, a scenic academic environment and the country's second-largest gymnasium for sports training.
He also stressed the importance of land acquisition for the university's future development. "There is no alternative to acquiring land to advance education, research and sports. A development project proposal (DP) has already been submitted to the University Grants Commission (UGC)," he added, expressing hope that the government would meet the university's demand to help transform JUST into a world-class centre of education and research.
According to university authorities, JUST currently has 6,213 students studying in 27 departments under eight faculties.
