Election campaigns gain momentum in Jhenaidah

JHENAIDAH, Jan 25, 2026 (BSS) - Campaigning for the upcoming national elections and referendum has gained momentum in the district, with candidates of different political parties’ actively engaging voters across rural and urban areas.

Nominated candidates are going door to door, holding road meetings, distributing leaflets and conducting miking campaigns to seek public support. Alongside party activities, the district and upazila administrations have intensified efforts to build public opinion in favor of the referendum.

The campaign in the district’s four parliamentary constituencies, which began on January 22, has been in full swing since Sunday morning. Candidates are seeking votes using a range of electoral symbols, including the Sheaf of Paddy, Daripall, Hat Pakha, Cup Pirich, Langol, Ladder, and Scissors.

In Jhenaidah-1 constituency (Shailkupa), BNP-nominated candidate launched his campaign on Sunday by addressing a road meeting at Bhatai Bazar. 

Candidates from Jamaat-e-Islami, Jatiya Party and other parties are also actively campaigning through road meetings, miking and leaflet distribution in the constituency.

In Jhenaidah-2 constituency, BNP candidate Md Abdul Majid held several road meetings in Kumrabaria union of Sadar upazila. At the same time, Jamaat-e-Islami’s candidate, contesting with Daripalla symbol, is conducting a door-to-door campaign in the area.

In Jhenaidah-3 constituency (Kotchandpur-Moheshpur), Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Professor Matiar Rahman addressed a road meeting seeking votes, while BNP candidate Mehedi Hasan Roni conducted yard meetings and distributed leaflets. Candidates of other political parties are also campaigning through various activities in the constituency.

In Jhenaidah-4 constituency (part of the district headquarters and Kaliganj), the BNP candidate is campaigning through miking and door-to-door canvassing in wards, municipalities and unions. Supporters of independent candidate Saiful Islam Firoz, contesting with the Cup-Pirich symbol, are also carrying out door-to-door campaigns. 

Candidates from Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolan Bangladesh and Jatiya Party are similarly engaged in electioneering activities.

Meanwhile, campaigns to build public support for a ‘yes’ vote in the referendum are also underway. District and upazila administrations are implementing various programs at schools, colleges, madrasas and other government and private institutions. Public awareness initiatives include dialogues titled “Gonobhote o Tarunya Bhabna”, miking, leaflet distribution and billboard displays.

District Election Officer Md. Abul Hossain told BSS that the overall situation at polling stations across the four constituencies remains normal. “A few isolated minor incidents occurred, but they were resolved immediately through discussions with the candidates. Whenever complaints are received, we take prompt action in consultation with candidates and their agents, who are cooperating with us,” he said.

Regarding the referendum, he added that the election administration remains neutral, while government authorities, political parties and other groups are conducting campaigns. “We are working to ensure an election-oriented and festive atmosphere,”he said.
