Religious ministry to donate 13,000 religious books for prisoners: Jahangir

DHAKA, Feb 9, 2026 (BSS) - Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said that the Ministry of Religious Affairs will donate 13,000 religious books to the Department of Prisons. 

The announcement came during a courtesy call paid by Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain to the Home Adviser at his office at the Home Ministry office at the Bangladesh Secretariat here. 

Speaking at the meeting, Chowdhury said religious education plays an important role in improving moral values, correcting behavior, and guiding individuals toward the right path. 

He added that alongside the distribution of religious books, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has also decided to appoint one religious teacher in each prison to provide guidance to inmates.

During the meeting, Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. A. F. M. Khalid Hossain formally handed over a number of religious books to the Home Affairs Adviser as a symbolic gesture of the initiative.

Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Nasimul Ghani and Inspector General of Department of Prisons Brigadier General Syed Md. Motaher Hossain were also present at the meeting.
