DHAKA, Feb 9, 2026 (BSS)- As part of preparations to ensure a free, fair, impartial and peaceful 13th national parliament election, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General (DG) Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui today said that the force is fully prepared to carry out all responsibilities assigned to it during the election.

“With the collective efforts of the government, Election Commission, administration, law enforcement agencies and the public, a credible and acceptable election would be held,” he said.

He made the remarks after visiting election base camps in Satkhira and Chuadanga and held coordination meetings with local civil administration and law enforcement agencies, said a BGB press release.

The BGB chief visited the election base camp at Shyamnagar Government Mohsin Degree College in Satkhira in the morning and Abdul Odud Shah Degree College in Damurhuda, Chuadanga in the afternoon.

Separate coordination meetings were held focusing on overall law and order, security arrangements and inter-agency coordination during the upcoming election.

The BGB chief emphasized close coordination with other law enforcement agencies to ensure that voters can cast their ballots in a safe, peaceful and fear-free environment.

He said that while maintaining security along the country’s 4,427-kilometer border, more than 37,000 BGB members have been deployed in 489 of the country’s 495 upazilas.

He added that BGB will independently perform election duties in 61 border upazilas, including Shyamnagar in Satkhira and Damurhuda in Chuadanga.

Additionally, BGB will be deployed as both mobile and static forces in 300 parliamentary constituencies based on risk assessment, he also said.

To handle any emergency situation during the polls, arrangements have been made to use BGB helicopters, Quick Response Force (QRF), Rapid Action Team (RAT), specialized K-9 dog squads, drones and body-worn cameras, he added.

Officials from the Army, local administration, police, RAB, district election offices and other departments, along with senior BGB officers from headquarters, Jessore region, and Khulna and Kushtia sectors attended the meetings.

During his visit to the election base camps, the BGB chief also exchanged views with officers and members deployed on election duty.

Noting that only two days remain before polling, he instructed them to increase patrols and remain vigilant to ensure smooth voting.

He directed all BGB personnel to carry out their duties with utmost professionalism, dedication and impartiality, and to take firm action against any miscreants attempting to disrupt the election process.
