
DHAKA,9, 2026 (BSS) - Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate in Dhaka-14 constituency has pledged to ensure accountability of public representatives if he is elected in the upcoming election.
In an interview with Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Arman said the election will determine the future course of Bangladesh and fulfill the aspirations of the July student-people’s uprising.
In a query about his key commitment to the people, he said, “If I win, I will be accountable to my voters. Every three or six months I will present myself before the people, give accounts of allocations, and answer to the questions in an open programme titled ‘Jonotar Mukhomukhi’ he said.
Arman said he will start acting immediately to construct a bridge in Kaundia and Bongaon, along with a government hospital in Kaundia.
He pledged to establish Bangla College as an separate university, improve facilities at Shah Ali Mazar, and upgrade the nearby hospital into a medical college.
He also promised technical training for youth, support freelancers and elimination of extortion and drug trade from his constituency.
On compliance of the election code of conduct, Arman said his team has simplified the 40-page election code of conduct into bullet points to publicize among his supporters to ensure compliance.
Regarding the July Charter referendum, he expressed support for its implementation, campaigning for “Yes” vote.
“We do not want fascism again. I was a victim of enforced disappearance. I hope the referendum will see a ‘Yes’ victory,” he said.
About his expectations from February 12 election Arman said he hopes a free and fair election where voters can cast ballots safely. He urged the Election Commission to reassure citizens.
“People’s enthusiasm is high and they must resist any attempt to occupy polling centres,” he said.
Dhaka-14 constituency has 456,044 voters, including 232,066 men, 223,974 women and four hijra voters.
Other candidates contesting the Dhaka 14 election are BNP’s Sanjida Islam Tuli, Islami Andolon Bangladesh’s Md Abu Yusuf, Communist Party’s Riaz Uddin, Gonoforum’s Md Jasim Uddin, Liberal Democratic Party’s Md Sohel Rana, AB Party’s Mohammad Moniruzzaman, JSD’s Nurul Amin, Jatiya Party’s Md Helal Uddin, Bangladesh Republican Party’s Md Liton, and Bangladesh Supreme Party’s Md Osman Ali.
