DHAKA, May 20, 2026 - The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has solved a brutal murder case in Sherpur within 24 hours, arresting two accused, recovering evidence and recording confessional statements before the court.

Police recovered the half-decomposed, headless body of an unidentified man from a Napier grass field in Charpakshimari union of Sherpur Sadar on May 18.

Later, the victim's father identified the body as his son, Al Amin, through his clothes and shoes and filed a murder case with Sherpur Sadar Police Station.

Following the case, PBI Jamalpur launched an investigation.

Using information technology and intelligence-based investigation, PBI arrested prime accused Shuvo, 19, from Bagolgor cluster village area in Sherpur on May 19, said a PBI press release.

Based on his information, another accused, Md Samrat, 20, was later arrested from Pathalia area in Jamalpur, it added.

Investigation revealed that the murder stemmed from a romantic dispute and personal revenge.

According to PBI, the victim had proposed a relationship with the sister of accused Shuvo in exchange for financial support, which enraged him. Shuvo then allegedly planned the murder with accomplice Samrat.

On May 13, the accused allegedly lured the victim to the crime scene on a motorcycle, strangled him with a rope from behind and later slit his throat with a knife to ensure death.

PBI recovered the motorcycle and rope used in the murder based on the accused's confession. Prime accused Shuvo later gave a confessional statement before the court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

The investigation into the case is continuing, PBI said.
