DHAKA, May 20, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Shipping Md. Razib Ahsan today paid a surprise visit to the Sadarghat Launch Terminal in Dhaka to inspect preparations for safe and smooth passenger movement on waterways ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.

During the inspection, the state minister exchanged views with launch owners, officials concerned and labour representatives, and issued necessary directives regarding passenger services, safety measures and fare management, according to a ministry press release.

He particularly urged passengers not to use boats or trawlers to board or disembark from launches under any circumstances, warning that such risky practices could lead to accidents.

Razib instructed all concerned authorities to remain highly vigilant in ensuring passenger safety.

The state minister also directed launch operators not to carry excess passengers beyond capacity.

He ordered all launches to display digital fare charts prominently so that passengers can easily know the government-approved fares and avoid harassment.

Warning against overcharging passengers, he said, "Strict action would be taken against anyone found involved in collecting extra fares during the Eid rush."

To ensure a comfortable and secure Eid journey, the state minister instructed officials, launch owners and workers to perform their duties responsibly.

"Negligence or irregularities in passenger services would not be tolerated," he warned.

Officials from the Ministry of Shipping, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), Department of Shipping and members of law enforcement agencies were present during the visit.
