DHAKA, Feb 16, 2026 (BSS) - A fire that broke out at a wooden shop and several adjoining establishments in Karwan Bazar was brought under control after over two hours of intense efforts by firefighters on Monday night.

The blaze erupted at 10:28pm in the Kathpatti area of Karwan Bazar, confirmed Anwarul Islam, media officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD).

According to fire officials, ten firefighting units rushed to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control around 12:35am after strenuous efforts.

The fire originated on the 3rd and 4th floors and spread to parts of the 5th floor of a five-storey L-shaped building.

Officials and employees of the building said that a Huggies diaper godown occupies the 2nd to 5th floors, while a wooden warehouse is located nearby, which may have contributed to the rapid spread of the flames.

Firefighters worked to prevent the blaze from spreading further to adjacent establishments in the densely packed commercial area.

No casualties have been reported so far.

The extent of damage and the cause of the fire will be determined after the fire is fully extinguished and an investigation is completed, officials said.
