MAGURA, Feb 28, 2026 (BSS) - Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury today warned government officials in Magura that negligence in duty, corruption and inefficiency would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
"The officials are free to discharge their responsibilities independently in their respective offices. But if negligence is proven, they will have to resign," he said while addressing a meeting of government officials at Shalikha Upazila.
The minister said people expect the establishment of a democratic and corruption-free society. He noted that the fundamental spirit of independence was to build democracy and ensure citizens' voting rights.
He said the government is committed to building a corruption-free administration, a transparent judicial system and a modern education sector.
Sustainable development would not be possible unless corruption and irregularities are eradicated from society, he added, urging officials to perform their duties with honesty and dedication.
The minister also announced a plan to set up an arts academy in every upazila across the country to create opportunities for artists to practise music and other cultural activities.
The meeting was presided over by Shalikha Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Bin Amin and attended by officials of different government departments.
Later, the minister visited the site of an ongoing canal excavation project at Dighalkandi village under the upazila, being implemented in line with the BNP government's election pledge.
