DHAKA, Mar 5, 2026 (BSS) - A five-member delegation of Bangladesh Nationalist (BNP) today met visiting US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs S Paul Kapur.

The meeting was held at the US Ambassador's Gulshan residence here this morning, BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan said.

BNP Standing Committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan led the delegation while the other members included Barrister Nawshad Zamir, Mahbubur Rahman, Nayab Yusuf and Nipun Roy Chowdhury.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Moyeen Khan said as a well-wishing country, the United States cooperated with Bangladesh in various ways in the past.

"The new government assumed office, so they (US) will naturally come here to discuss what is happening in Bangladesh, what are our policies, what are our future policies and our mutual relations with different countries, especially with the United States.," he said.

Asked whether there was any discussion about the agreement signed with the United States, he said the US discussed this issue with the government.

"The issues we discussed today are mainly the mutual relations between the people of the two countries and the policies of the government," the BNP leader said.

He pinpointed that the meeting discussed various issues including Bangladesh-US diplomatic, foreign and economic relations.

US Assistant Secretary Paul Kapur arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday on a two-day visit to "strengthen strategic ties" between Bangladesh and the United States and explore opportunities in diverse areas.
