DHAKA, Mar 16, 2026 (BSS) - Election campaign in the parliamentary election in Sherpur-3 and by-polls in Bogura-6 began today as the Election Commission (EC) allotted election symbols among the candidates.

A total of six candidates, three in each constituency, are contesting the election in Sherpur-3 and by-election in Bogura-6 parliamentary seats, Returning Officers of the two constituencies told BSS.

Returning Officer of Sherpur-3 constituency Mohammad Jahangir Hossain said that BNP-nominated candidate Md Mahmudul Haque Rubel will contest the election with the "Sheaf of Paddy" symbol, while Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-nominated candidate Md Masudur Rahman will contest with the "Daripalla" symbol.

Besides, a candidate of Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (Marxist) will contest the polls with the "Scissors" symbol, he added.

The EC postponed the election of the constituency scheduled for February 12 following death of Jamaat-e-Islami candidate. Later, the EC announced a fresh schedule for election.

Meanwhile, Returning Officer of Bogura-6 constituency Md Fazlul Karim said three candidates are contesting the by-election in the seat and they were allotted their election symbols.

He said BNP candidate Md Rezaul Karim Badsha will contest the election with the "Sheaf of Paddy" symbol, while Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md Abidur Rahman with the Daripalla symbol.

Besides, a candidate of Bangladesh Development Party will contest the election with "Cauliflower" symbol, he said, adding that the election atmosphere in the constituency is orderly.

Bogura-6 seat fell vacant after Prime Minister Tarique Rahman relinquished the seat following his win in two parliamentary constituencies on February 12, as per the law.

As there is no provision to hold membership of two parliamentary seats simultaneously, he retained the Dhaka-17 seat and vacated the Bogura-6 seat. The EC later declared the seat vacant and announced a fresh election schedule.

According to the schedule announced by the EC, voting in Bogura-6 by-election and the general election in Sherpur-3 will be held on April 9 from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm without any break.
