
DHAKA, March 18, 2026 (BSS) - The Election Commission (EC) will send postal ballots to voters residing inside the country by March 25 for the elections to Sherpur-3 and by-polls to Bogura-6 constituencies.
Salim Ahmed Khan, Team Leader of the 'OCV-SDI' project on expatriate voter registration, told BSS today.
He said that postal ballots have already been sent to registered expatriate voters for these two constituencies. The ballots will be sent to voters registered inside the country by March 25.
Khan said postal ballots have already been dispatched to 1,281 registered expatriate voters for Bogura-6 constituency while 383 registered expatriate voters in Sherpur-3 constituency have also received their postal ballots.
On Sunday, Returning Officer Mohammad Jahangir Hossain told BSS that a total of three candidates are contesting in the general election for Sherpur-3, and their election symbols have been allocated.
He said BNP candidate Md. Mahmudul Haque Rubel is contesting with the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol, while Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami nominee Md. Masudur Rahman is contesting with the 'Dari Palla' symbol. A candidate from Bangladeshe Samajtantrik Dal (Marxist) is also contesting with the 'Scissor' symbol.
The Election Commission had earlier canceled the election in this constituency after the death of a Jamaat-e-Islami candidate during the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election on February 12. A new schedule was later announced.
Bogura-6 constituency election: Returning Officer Md. Fazlul Karim told BSS that three candidates are contesting in by-election to this constituency, and their symbols were allocated on Sunday.
He said that BNP candidate Md. Rezaul Karim Badsha is contesting with the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol, while Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md. Abidur Rahman is contesting with the 'Dari Palla' symbol. A candidate from the Bangladesh Development Party is also contesting with the 'Cauliflower' symbol. He added that the election environment in this constituency is very good.
BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, now prime minister, won from two seats-Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6 in the national election.
Later, he vacated the Bogura-6 seat. The EC later declared the seat vacant and announced a fresh schedule.
According to the schedule announced by the EC, voting for the Bogura-6 by-election and the Sherpur-3 election will be held on April 9 (Thursday) from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm without interruption.
