Two confess, two remanded in TikToker Rakib murder case

DHAKA, March 18, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today placed two accused on a five-day remand each and recorded confessional statements of two others in a case filed over the murder of TikToker Rakibul Islam Rakib in front of the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital on March 15.
 
The remanded accused are Rafin Sheikh and Shahriar Nazim Joy, while Golam Rasul Shihab and Sagor Fokir gave confessional statements under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin passed the order after police produced the four before the court and sought a seven-day remand for the first two accused. The remaining two expressed willingness to give confessional statements, and the investigation officer prayed for recording those statements.
 
According to the case documents, Rakib, an honours second-year student of Shaikh Burhanuddin Post Graduate College, was shot and stabbed indiscriminately in front of the Central Shaheed Minar while hanging out with friends on the night of March 15.
 
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
 
Rakib’s father Tarikul Islam Khokon filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station on March 16.
