Indian envoy calls on environment minister

DHAKA, April 08, 2026 (BSS)- Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma paid a courtesy call on Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo at his secretariat office here today.

During the meeting, special emphasis was placed on increasing cooperation between the two countries in environmental conservation and addressing the impacts of climate change, said an official handout.
 
The discussion focused on capacity development, research and knowledge exchange, circular economy, waste management, renewable energy, and improving energy efficiency.
 
The need for joint initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and establish good environmental governance was also highlighted in the meeting.

They also discussed the ways to enhance mutual cooperation in green cooling, biodiversity conservation, and environmentally friendly industrialization, the release said adding the meeting also emphasized on sharing experience in the Sundarbans protection.

The minister stated Bangladesh is working to strengthen bilateral cooperation with neighboring India. Bangladesh is keen to work more closely in the future to address environmental and climate change issues.

The Indian high commissioner assured continued cooperation in building sustainable development and climate-resilient infrastructure in Bangladesh.

He expressed interest in exchanging India’s experience in various fields, including renewable energy and hydrogen-fueled automobiles.

Secretary of the ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Deputy High Commissioner of India and Chief Conservator of Forests, were present.
