Mild heat wave sweeping over western parts of country

DHAKA, April 16, 2026 (BSS) - Mild heat wave is sweeping over different districts of the country, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

"Mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, Jashore, Chuadanga and Kushtia and it may abate," said a Met office bulletin this morning.

Besides, BMD forecasted that rain would occur in different parts of the country in next 24 hours commencing 9 am today. 

"Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind and lightning flashes is likely to occur at a few places over Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Barishal and Chattogram divisions with hails at isolated places," the bulletin said.

Day temperature may fall by 1-2 degree Celsius and night temperature may fall slightly over the country.

The highest temperature on Wednesday was recorded at 39.2 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi and today's minimum temperature is 20 degrees Celsius in Rajarhat under Rangpur division. 

The sun sets at 6.20 pm today and rises at 5.36 am tomorrow in Dhaka.
