Heatwave sweeping over country

DHAKA, Apr 24, 2026 (BSS) - Mild to moderate heatwave is sweeping over different parts of the country, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD). 

A Met office bulletin said this morning, "Mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Khulna division and the districts of Dhaka, Faridpur, Madaripur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajgonj, Feni, Laxmipur, Rangamati, Bandarban & Patuakhali and it may continue." 

Besides, it forecasted that rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind and lightning flashes is likely to occur at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh & Sylhet divisions with hails at isolated places in next 24 hours commencing from 9 am. 

It also said weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country.

Day temperature may rise slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, the bulletin added.

The highest temperature on Thursday was recorded at 38 degrees Celsius in Jashore while today's minimum temperature was 23.3 degrees Celsius in Tetulia under Rangpur division. 

The sun sets at 6:24 pm today and expected to rise at 5:29 am tomorrow in Dhaka.
