HEAT project to bring positive change in country’s higher education: UGC Chairman

DHAKA, April 28, 2026 (BSS)- Chairman of the Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed today said that the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) project will bring positive change to the country's higher education sector. 

“It will help prepare students as competent and skilled human resources,” he said while presiding over the World Bank's 4th Support Mission meeting on the implementation of the HEAT project, held at the UGC building.

Prof Mamun Ahmed advised forming a committee comprising appropriate individuals from the Planning Commission, the Ministry of Education, the UGC, and universities to complete the revision of the Development Project Proposal (DPP) for the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) project by June of this year, incorporating the government's priorities for higher education in the country.

The UGC Chairman said, “HEAT project is the largest development project for the country's higher education. The project has created a golden opportunity for the UGC to improve the quality of higher education and research.”

T.M. Asaduzzaman, Senior Education Specialist and Task Team Leader of the World Bank; Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam, Secretary of the Commission; Professor A.K.M. Munirul Islam, Secretary of the Bangladesh Accreditation Council; Professor Dr. Asaduzzaman, Director of the HEAT Project; Mohammad Tawrit, CEO of BDREN; along with officials from relevant organizations participated in the event. 

T.M. Asaduzzaman sought the UGC Chairman's cooperation in achieving the goals of the HEAT project and to fully utilize the released funds.
