EU envoy meets Mirza Fakhrul

DHAKA, April 28, 2026 (BSS) - Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Bangladesh Michael Miller today paid a courtesy call on LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the secretariat here.

The meeting, held at the minister's office, featured fruitful discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding partnership between Bangladesh and the EU.

Both sides underscored the importance of further deepening and broadening existing ties. 

The minister expressed interest in utilizing the EU's expertise in the water management sector, saying that joint knowledge-sharing initiatives in this area would greatly benefit Bangladesh.

The EU envoy described Bangladesh as a reliable and trusted development partner and reaffirmed both parties' interest in further deepening and expanding ongoing cooperation.

Key issues including decentralization of governance, advancement of e-governance, infrastructure development and sustainable development were also discussed.

Both sides expressed optimism that enhanced collaboration and joint initiatives would make Bangladesh-EU development cooperation more dynamic in the coming days.

Local Government Division Secretary Md Shahidul Hasan, Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Secretary Mohang Shawkat Rashid Chowdhury and senior officials were present at the meeting.
