Prof Almujaddade Alfasane appointed as DU Pro-VC

DHAKA, May 7, 2026 (BSS) - Prof. Mohammed Almujaddade Alfasane of the Department of Botany has been appointed as the Pro-Vice Chancellor (admin) of the University of Dhaka.
 
With the approval of the President and Chancellor, he was appointed today under Article 13(1) of the Dhaka University Order, 1973.
 
Following the appointment, Prof Alfasane formally joined the office this afternoon at a function held at Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom on the university campus.
 
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof ABM Obaidul Islam, outgoing Pro-Vice Chancellor (admin) Prof Sayema Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (academic) Prof Abdus Salam, Treasurer Prof M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, deans of different faculties, provosts of halls, chairpersons of departments, directors of institutes, and a large number of teachers and officials were present at the programme.
 
Welcoming the new Pro-Vice Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor expressed his commitment to ensuring academic excellence, transparency and accountability at the university.
 
He said Dhaka University is a historic institution of higher education where maintaining an academic atmosphere above political and ideological divisions is very important.
 
The Vice-Chancellor stressed the importance of performing duties with honesty, dedication and sincerity and sought cooperation from all concerned in this regard.
 
After assuming office, Prof Almujaddade Alfasane expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah and pledged to work sincerely to uphold the dignity and reputation of the university.
 
He said carrying forward the activities of the previous administration would be his main goal and sought blessings and cooperation from all in discharging his responsibilities properly.
 
“I am one of you. I have a long association with this university. So, I will try my best to uphold the honour and dignity of the university,” he added.
 
The newly appointed Pro-Vice Chancellor requested all concerned to refrain from offering floral greetings, sweets or any other gifts marking his appointment.
