
RAJSHAHI, May 7, 2026 (BSS) - Professor Farid Uddin Khan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) of Rajshahi University (RU), inaugurated the 'Molecular Biology,
Genomics and Protein Research Lab' at the Department of Microbiology today.
Professor Golam Mortuza, Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences, attended the ceremony as the special guest.
Also present were Professor Mostafizur Rahman Mondal, Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries; Professor Khandaker Md. Mozaffor Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of
Veterinary and Animal Sciences; Proctor Professor Md. Mahbubur Rahman; Professor Imtiaz Hasan, Chair of the department; Professor Bishwanath Sikder,
former Chair of the department; and Professor Amit Kumar Dutta, the lab's supervisor.
At the event, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor also distributed certificates to students who participated in the four-day workshop titled 'Laboratory Safety
and Technique of Molecular Biology: A Foundation Workshop'. Trainers who made significant contributions to conducting the workshop were
honored with crests.
Inaugurating the lab, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor said this research facility will open new horizons for molecular biology and genomics research in
Bangladesh and will be capable of bringing revolutionary changes to the country's biotechnology sector.
Faculty members, researchers, and students from the Department of Microbiology and other related departments were also present at the ceremony.
