KHULNA, May 20, 2026 (BSS) - A free veterinary medical camp was held at Khulna Agricultural University (KAU) today, providing healthcare services to domestic animals and enhancing practical training for students.

The day-long camp was organised by the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at the university's temporary campus-1 in Daulatpur, where healthcare services were provided to a total of 252 domestic animals and pets.

The camp offered free treatment, healthcare consultation and deworming services for livestock.

Farmers were also provided with appetite stimulants, vitamin tablets and injectable saline free of cost.

KAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Nazmul Ahsan inaugurated the programme as the chief guest.

The Vice-Chancellor said such initiative will continue to improve livestock resources at the grassroots level and raise awareness among farmers.

The camp was supervised by acting director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and lecturer of the Medicine Department Dr Solema Akter Shanta.

Veterinary interns and students from Level-1 to Level-4 participated in the programme.

Vaccines against FMD and PPR were administered to cattle and goats, while rabies and flu vaccines were given to dogs and cats. Newcastle disease vaccines were also administered to poultry.

Dr Solema Akter Shanta said the initiative aims to build a self-reliant Bangladesh in nutrition by ensuring animal healthcare services alongside practical learning opportunities for students.

Local service recipients welcomed the initiative and expressed hope that the university would continue arranging such free veterinary camps in future for the benefit of livestock and pet owners.
