DHAKA, June 25, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today said Islam has no place for division, conflict, hatred or social discord, stressing that the fundamental teachings of the religion are founded on peace, justice, compassion and the welfare of humanity.

"Let us draw inspiration from the great lessons of Holy Ashura and further strengthen harmony, mutual respect, tolerance and brotherhood in society. Let us dedicate ourselves even more to building a just, peaceful and welfare-oriented society," he said in his message on the eve of the Holy Ashura, paying deep respect to Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA) and other martyrs of Karbala, a prominent city in central Iraq.

The Holy Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), will be observed across the country tomorrow with due religious solemnity.

"On the occasion of the Holy Ashura, I pay my deepest respects to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). I also express my profound reverence for the sacred memory of his family members and companions who embraced martyrdom in the tragic incident of Karbala. On this solemn occasion, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Muslim Ummah in Bangladesh and across the world," the Premier said.

Terming the Holy Ashura a day of unique significance in the history of Islam, the Prime Minister said beyond mourning and remembrance, it embodies the timeless values of truth, justice, patience, sacrifice and moral steadfastness.

"The tragedy of Karbala remains an unforgettable chapter in human history that has inspired people through the ages to stand firmly for truth and against injustice and oppression," he added.
