PM mourns death of eminent artist Mustafa Monwar

DHAKA, June 29, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Mustafa Monwar, Ekushey Padak-winning eminent artist and cultural personality.

In a condolence message, he said Mustafa Monwar's death created a big vacuum in the country's art and cultural arena that cannot be filled easily. 

The prime minister said the nation will always remember his contributions with profound respect and Monwar's works and ideals will continue to inspire the generations to come.

He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Mustafa Monwar passed away this morning while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital aged 90.

He received Ekushey Padak in 2004 for his contributions to fine arts.
